Vigo Reinstates Coia Fiestas With Compliant Rides and Funding Guarantee

Negotiations over the safety plan led the council to guarantee lost revenues with a focus on compliant rides.

Overview

  • Vigo’s city council and the Coia neighborhood association reversed an earlier cancellation by agreeing that only attractions meeting the regional law’s safety requirements will be installed.
  • The council pledged to cover the commission’s revenue shortfall caused by the prohibition of noncompliant rides to ensure scheduled performances and fireworks.
  • The revived program runs July 4 to 9 and features orquesta performances from Panorama, Satélites, Gran Parada and Cinema alongside daily firework displays.
  • Local bars and restaurants warned that cancelling the festivities would cost them up to 40 percent of their monthly turnover.
  • The PP party has scheduled an urgent municipal motion for June 30 to demand explanations from the security councilor on this summer’s event safety protocols.
