Vigo Launches Tribunales de Instancia, Replacing Traditional Courts

Full operations begin January 7 after the holiday recess.

Overview

  • Only the duty court and the Violence against Women section are active this week, with one magistrate still to be officially appointed for the latter.
  • The first day ran without incidents, hearings proceeded normally, and case-management software now reflects the new section names shown in LexNet notifications.
  • Judges are reorganized by civil, criminal, and social sections and supported by shared staffing pools coordinated by four letrados directores overseeing Common Service, Processing, Enforcement, and the Provincial Court.
  • The duty court rotates weekly among eight investigating judges after Vigo retained an eighth post; it works with two dedicated auxiliaries and access to about 80 shared case processors.
  • Officials will keep their current desks until definitive reassignments on March 31, and new physical signage for the sections has not yet been installed.
