Overview

  • The city council approved the plan on May 26 with 19 PSdeG-PSOE votes in favour, five abstentions by the Partido Popular and three votes against from the Bloque Nacionalista Galego.
  • The PXOM allocates space for 51,467 new homes across Vigo, including about 14,000 units with rent or sale prices fixed by public protection requirements.
  • More than €876 million in funding has been pledged by the Concello, Xunta, central government, Diputación and private promoters to cover major infrastructure works.
  • Urban greenery will expand from 2.1 million to 4.8 million square metres, adding new parks, semipeatonalised plazas and repurposed industrial heritage sites.
  • After provisional approval in August 2021, the plan now moves to official publication in the DOG and BOP before implementation, having drawn only 4,502 objections and secured 30 favourable administrative reports.
