Officials attribute the disaster to weeks of extreme rain following earlier storm impacts.

Overview

  • Tens of thousands of homes across five regions were inundated, rail lines and roads were submerged, thousands were stranded, several highways became impassable, and about 130,000 households lost power.
  • Since November 16, downpours have driven widespread flooding, with Dak Lak province accounting for more than 60 of the confirmed fatalities.
  • The Environment Ministry estimated recent flood losses at roughly €298 million, while one outlet reported more than 235,000 homes destroyed or damaged and around 80,000 hectares of farmland affected, and cited €1.73 billion in nationwide extreme‑weather losses from January to November.
  • Record rainfall totals were logged in parts of the south and center since late October, including up to 1,900 liters per square meter in a week, with whole neighborhoods in Nha Trang flooded and deadly landslides near Da Lat.
