Overview

• Newly released dash and body camera footage shows Rudy Anthony Martinez II strike a patrol car with a broken shovel and then charge the officer before shots were fired.
• The confrontation occurred Sept. 15 near John Marshall Elementary at Holly Street and Falmouth Avenue after reports of a suspicious person.
• Earlier calls reported a man carrying a brick, possibly under the influence, and lingering near the campus, according to police.
• The officer provided first aid, paramedics transported Martinez, and he was pronounced dead roughly 30 minutes later; the officer was not injured and a shovel was recovered.
