Video Shows I-84 Pursuit Gunfire, Arrest Warrant Issued for Suspect

Investigators identified the driver as Samuel Lee, who remains hospitalized under a warrant charging attempted first-degree assault.

Overview

  • Dash- and body-camera footage released by the Connecticut Office of Inspector General shows the fleeing driver pointing a handgun out the window and firing multiple rounds at pursuing Manchester police on I-84 West in East Hartford.
  • Manchester officer Kyle Busse returned fire from his cruiser, discharging about nine rounds and striking the suspect in the right hip, which officials described as a non-life-threatening injury.
  • The pursuit began around 1:42 a.m. Saturday after a traffic stop on Center Street in Manchester, with officers deploying stop sticks at the on-ramp and reporting several punctured tires.
  • At least one police cruiser was hit by gunfire, the suspect surrendered at the scene, and officers recovered a firearm from the driver’s side floor of the Lexus.
  • Authorities say Lee had six outstanding rearrest warrants; the Hartford State’s Attorney approved a new arrest warrant with multiple felonies as the OIG leads an ongoing multi-agency investigation.
