Sam Hibbins, Victorian Greens co-deputy leader and MP for Prahran, has resigned from the party room after admitting to a relationship with a staff member.
The relationship, which ended some time ago, was consensual but violated the party's rules, according to Hibbins.
Hibbins, who is married with two children, acknowledged his actions as a significant error of judgment and expressed regret for the distress caused.
Victorian Greens leader Ellen Sandell condemned Hibbins' behavior, stating he would not be welcome back in the party room.
Despite leaving the party room, Hibbins will continue to serve as an independent MP, committed to his electorate of Prahran.
