Overview
- More than 1,000 roles will go across the public sector, including 332 senior executive and technical specialist positions.
- Estimated savings top $4 billion over four years, including $359 million from executive cuts, $113 million from reduced consultant spending, and a corrected $27 million from entity mergers.
- Twenty-nine public entities will be merged or abolished, compared with 78 reductions proposed by the review.
- VicHealth and HealthShare Victoria will be absorbed into the Department of Health, a new Safe Food Victoria regulator will be created, and several boards and advisory bodies will be wound up.
- The government will introduce legislation on Thursday to implement the changes, and frontline roles such as teachers, nurses, police and child protection workers are outside the review’s scope.
