Overview
- The state has placed 40 heavy-duty steel bins at its 24/7 police stations to collect illegal machetes during an amnesty from September 1 to November 30, 2025.
- Since May’s interim sales ban, Consumer Affairs Victoria has inspected over 470 retailers and market vendors and detected only eight breaches of the prohibition.
- From September 1, possession, sale or use of machetes without a valid exemption will be unlawful and carry penalties of up to two years’ imprisonment or fines nearing $50,000.
