Victoria Road Closure Signals Launch of Wirral Pride and Veterans Pride Weekend

The community festival opens with all-day performances, BSL interpretation, free admission, a parallel military Pride event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the armed forces’ lifted ban

Overview

  • Organisers have rebranded New Brighton Pride as Wirral Pride to serve a broader regional community and set the celebration for Saturday, August 9 at Victoria Quarter with stalls from 10:30 am, a 12 pm muster and performances until 5:45 pm.
  • A British Sign Language interpreter will be present on stage throughout the day, and the free, family-friendly event includes a Pride street market and local support services.
  • Wirral Council has approved closures on Victoria Road, Grosvenor Road and Waterloo Road from 7 am to 7 pm to ensure safe passage for festival-goers.
  • The official after-party starts at 5:30 pm at The New Brighton Hotel Bar & Lounge, featuring DJ Jules and hosting duties by Pam Sandwich (Thomas Hartley).
  • Veterans Pride at HMS Eaglet will honour LGBT+ service members with a 1940s vintage theme and mark the 25th anniversary of the armed forces’ lifted gay ban.
