Victor Lapena Departs as Head Coach of Canadian Women's Basketball Team

Canada Basketball and Lapena mutually agreed to part ways after an unsuccessful Olympic campaign.

Victor Lapena led the Canadian women's team to a 17-10 record in FIBA competitions since January 2022.
The decision follows Canada's winless performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, where they finished 11th.
Lapena had extended his contract to stay with Canada Basketball through the 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup.
He was also hired by Turkish club Cukurova Basketbol Kulubu, with an agreement to fulfill national team duties.
Canada Basketball will begin a search for a new head coach as they plan for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
