Victor Glover Returns to Cal Poly as Full-Time Strategic Adviser

His appointment signals a push to deepen industry partnerships, boost STEM pipelines and expand philanthropy for the university's applied-engineering programs.

Overview

  • Glover assumed the full-time administrative leadership role at Cal Poly effective Sept. 1 and will counsel President Jeffrey D. Armstrong and other senior leaders on long-range strategy.
  • The role charges Glover with accelerating partnerships, applied research and fundraising to strengthen Cal Poly's engineering, aerospace, maritime and workforce programs.
  • He will act as an ambassador and mentor for students through public engagements and informal teaching or internship-style interactions rather than a formal classroom appointment.
  • Glover retired from the U.S. Navy and moved into an unpaid NASA astronaut emeritus status while joining Cal Poly, a change he said makes him a special government employee.
  • The appointment has family as well as institutional dimensions: Glover and his wife are returning to the Central Coast to be near their four daughters at Cal Poly and to help connect the university with regional aerospace and defense partners.
