Vice-President Radhakrishnan Arrives in Karnataka for Maiden Visit

Overview

He landed at the Yelahanka Air Force Station on Sunday morning and was received by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy and state officials.
He is scheduled to travel by helicopter to Shravanabelagola for a Jain centenary commemoration honoring Acharya Shanti Sagar Maharaj, including an idol installation and the naming of a fourth hill.
His program features the sixteenth convocation of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research in Mysuru, where he will address graduating students.
He will visit the old premises of Suttur Math and offer prayers at the Chamundeshwari temple near Mysuru and the Cheluvanarayana Swamy temple in Melukote.
In pre-visit remarks, he lauded Jain teachings, noted adopting vegetarianism 25 years ago, and cited efforts to recognize Prakrit and preserve Jain manuscripts through the Gyan Bharatham Mission.
