- Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar officially nominated Dr. M L Raja on May 27, 2025, for the Dr. S Radhakrishnan Chair, effective May 7, 2025 to May 6, 2026.
- Established by the Rajya Sabha in 2009, the chair was created to foster scholarly research on various facets of India’s parliamentary democracy.
- Dhankhar noted that although Raja is officially the third appointee, he is only the second to receive the functional chair following journalist Jawahar Kaul.
- Dr. Raja, an ophthalmologist and epigraphist, leads AVINASH and RICH and has authored 13 books on subjects ranging from ancient Indian astronomy to historical chronology.
- His current work centers on refining India’s historical timeline, including dating figures like Adi Shankara and Chandragupta Maurya using astronomical and textual analysis.
