Overview

  • Heat stress can occur in dogs above 25°C and turns life-threatening at 30°C or higher.
  • Brachycephalic breeds such as Pugs, French and English bulldogs, Boxers and Boston terriers struggle to cool down in high heat.
  • Dogs with thick double coats, minimal fur and those that are older or overweight face higher overheating risks.
  • Small pets such as rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters cannot regulate temperature via sweating or panting and require cool, ventilated enclosures.
  • Owners should maintain shade and airflow, offer water-rich snacks and regular grooming, and use gradual cooling with damp towels while seeking veterinary help at the first sign of overheating.
