Jones, who moved his family from Miami to San Diego intending to join a West Coast team, thanked the Lions organization for their support over the years.
The wide receiver, in his second stint with the Lions, had five catches for 35 yards in six matches this season before leaving.
Jones, 33, has a career record of 547 catches, 7,421 yards, and 58 touchdowns, which ranks ninth among active players.
