Veteran Politician and Former Karnataka CM SM Krishna Passes Away at 92

SM Krishna, credited with transforming Bengaluru into a global IT hub, will be remembered for his six-decade-long political career and visionary leadership.

SM Krishna, former Karnataka Chief Minister, External Affairs Minister, and Maharashtra Governor, passed away on December 10, 2024, at his Bengaluru residence due to age-related issues.
The Karnataka government has declared three days of mourning, with the national flag flown at half-mast and all public entertainment events suspended during this period.
Krishna is widely recognized for his pivotal role in branding Bengaluru as India's Silicon Valley, bolstering the IT sector during his tenure as Chief Minister from 1999 to 2004.
He received the Padma Vibhushan in 2023 for his contributions to public service and retired from active politics in January 2023 after over six decades in public life.
His last rites, to be conducted with full state honours, will take place in his native village Somanahalli in Mandya district, where his mortal remains have been taken for public homage.
