Veteran AIADMK Leader J. C. D. Prabhakar Joins Vijay’s TVK in Chennai

The move underscores TVK’s pull for former AIADMK cadres.

Overview

  • Prabhakar formally joined Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in the presence of party founder Vijay at his Foreshore Estate residence in Chennai.
  • He told reporters he holds no post in the party and said he joined with the hope of delivering good governance to the people.
  • He said he had tried to reconcile rival AIADMK factions but failed, and he was earlier expelled alongside O. Panneerselvam.
  • TVK has recently attracted other former AIADMK figures, with K. A. Sengottaiyan appointed chief coordinator and Prabhakar’s son Amalan already on board.
  • Prabhakar’s career includes Assembly wins from Villivakkam in 1980 and 2011, brief stints in the Tamil Maanila Congress and Samajwadi Party, and a 2016 contest in Kolathur against M. K. Stalin.
