Vertiv, Caterpillar Sign MOU to Deliver Integrated On-Site Power and Cooling for Data Centers

The plan targets surging AI workloads by using pre-designed architectures with CCHP to ease grid constraints.

Overview

  • The companies announced a Memorandum of Understanding on Nov. 18 to collaborate on advanced energy optimization solutions for data centers.
  • Caterpillar and its Solar Turbines unit will provide power generation using natural gas turbines and reciprocating engines, supplying electricity and thermal energy for combined cooling, heat and power.
  • Vertiv will contribute modular, pre-designed power distribution and cooling blocks intended to shorten design cycles and accelerate time-to-power.
  • According to the companies, the interoperable reference architectures aim to lower PUE and will be backed by global lifecycle support from both service networks.
  • Initial market reaction was modestly negative, with Vertiv shares down about 1.1% and Caterpillar down about 1.6%, and detailed commercial agreements or deployment timelines were not disclosed.
