- Police responded Tuesday to Congregation Or Shalom in Vernon Hills after graffiti discovered on the property was traced to roughly 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
- The vandal left a phallic drawing in the parking lot and painted the words “Hate Jews” on a retaining wall facing the synagogue.
- Deputy Chief Shannon Holubetz said the case remains active with one suspect believed responsible, and no arrests have been announced.
- Police Chief Patrick L. Kreis called such offenses attacks on the whole community and urged tips to [email protected] to help identify the offender.
- The synagogue condemned the act ahead of the High Holy Days, planned a Friday Shabbat gathering with interfaith supporters, and will solicit designs for a mural to cover the wall.
