Verizon to Charge $10 Monthly for Apple iPhone Handoff

Carrier-controlled eSIM setup, plan rules, device eligibility, billing create uneven access for users.

Overview

  • Verizon has confirmed it will bill $10 per month for iPhone Handoff, saying the service will work on compatible iPhones running iOS 27 including the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro.
  • iPhone Handoff lets one phone number move between two iPhones so calls and messages follow the active device, but only one phone can be active at a time and the feature relies on eSIM provisioning and the same Apple ID.
  • Carriers are setting different commercial terms: T‑Mobile charges $5 per month, Deutsche Telekom offers Handoff through its €6.95 MultiSIM service, EE includes it on its Full Works Plus plan or charges £5 otherwise, and AT&T currently has no plans to support it.
  • Apple enabled Handoff in iOS 27 but carriers control activation, billing and device eligibility, and major operators describe availability as coming soon with Apple saying participating carriers would add support before year-end.
  • The carrier-driven rollout means users may face new monthly fees, plan restrictions or bundled offers and should watch each operator’s activation and cancellation rules for the exact costs and setup steps.
