Verivox Study Finds Sharp Gender Split in Germany’s Car Choices

Official registration figures mirror the split, with more young women now holding policies themselves.

Overview

  • Verivox analyzed anonymized car-insurance contracts for the 100 most insured models from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2025.
  • Women favor small and city cars, including the Hyundai i10 (62% women), Kia Picanto (61%), and the Fiat 500 and Nissan Micra (each 60%).
  • Men are overrepresented in large luxury sedans such as the Audi A6, Mercedes E‑Class, and BMW 5 Series, with male shares about 25% above average and female shares falling as much as 46% below average on these models.
  • The Audi A1 stands out as strongly female-oriented, with the share of female holders 73% above average and men roughly 41% below average on that model.
  • Men account for 64% of Verivox auto policies and 62% of vehicle holders per KBA, while younger women increasingly insure cars in their own name to build no‑claims discounts.
