Verivox: Civil Servants in Germany Get Cheaper Loans, Far More Approvals

Banks offer lower rates to civil servants due to perceived job security.

  • Civil servants received financing offers in 80% of credit inquiries compared with 52% for salaried workers.
  • Verivox calculates an illustrative saving of about €529 on a €22,000 five-year loan at the lower median rate.
  • In the sample, civil servants reported roughly €1,300 higher average net income and borrowed larger sums, averaging €22,322 versus an overall €17,121.
