Ventura Foods Recalls 3,556 Cases of Food-Service Salad Dressings Over Plastic Contamination

The FDA classifies the ongoing action as a Class II recall after black plastic planting material was traced to a granulated-onion supply.

Overview

  • Ventura Foods initiated the sub‑recall on Nov. 6 after an ingredient supplier pulled a lot of onion granules found to contain foreign material.
  • The affected dressings were sent to seven retail customers across 42 locations in 27 states, including Costco and reportedly Publix, with one customer in Costa Rica.
  • Impacted items include Costco Service Deli and Food Court Caesar dressings, Pepper Mill Caesar varieties, Italian, Creamy Poblano Avocado Ranch, Ventura Caesar, and a one‑gallon Hidden Valley Buttermilk Ranch professional product.
  • Hidden Valley said no consumer‑sized retail products are included, and most recalled items are large food‑service or deli sizes rather than typical grocery bottles.
  • Costco issued a Nov. 7 customer notice for certain Caesar salads and a chicken sandwich with Caesar salad, and consumers are advised to stop using affected products and return them for refunds; no injuries have been reported.
