Venetians Mobilize Canal Protests Ahead of Bezos’s Venice Wedding

Local activists plan June 26–28 canal blockades to oppose the wedding despite city assurances of minimal disruption.

Overview

  • The three-day ceremony from June 24 to 28 will host about 200 guests with 30 of Venice’s 280 water taxis reserved for wedding transport.
  • City officials have stated that regular taxi and public water services will continue uninterrupted and only a handful of hotels will be used.
  • Bezos and Sánchez are sourcing roughly 80% of their provisions from Venetian vendors, including pastry maker Rosa Salva and Murano glass studio Laguna B.
  • The No Space for Bezos committee has vowed to line streets with bodies and block canals using boats, dinghies and lifesavers during the festivities.
