Vemulawada Ends Bathukamma on Seventh Day With Saddula Ritual

The temple town follows a localized tradition dedicated to the Sapta Matrukas.

Overview

  • The seventh-day Saddula Bathukamma was held on Saturday at the Bathukamma Teppa near the Moolavagu river in Rajanna Sircilla district.
  • Government Whip and Vemulawada MLA Adi Srinivas joined the immersion procession and said the observance reflects nature worship and women’s self-respect.
  • Municipal authorities organized immersion-site logistics and upgraded festive lighting across the town with more than 900 lights for Bathukamma and Dasara.
  • Vedic scholars attribute the seven-day practice to worship of the Sapta Matrukas and trace its origins to a local legend dated to around 1010 AD.
  • Customs featured women and girls singing “Bathukamma Bathukamma Uyyalo,” with guidance for married women and daughters-in-law to celebrate at both marital and parental homes.
