  • Zoo officials evacuated guests and staff as a precaution and confirmed that all animals and personnel were unharmed.
  • Oakland Fire Department crews halted the blaze’s forward progress by approximately 5:45 p.m. and fully contained it within an hour.
  • Cleanup operations cleared debris and reopened the third and fourth westbound lanes and on-ramps of Interstate 580 by around 7:45 p.m.
