VBB Fares Rise From January as Berlin AB Single Hits €4 and Deutschlandticket Climbs to €63

Higher energy and staffing costs are cited as the reason.

Overview

  • From January 1, 2026, the Verkehrsverbund Berlin‑Brandenburg implements an average fare increase of about 6% approved by its supervisory board in September.
  • Key prices change to €4.00 for a Berlin AB single, €5.00 for ABC, €12.40 for the AB four‑trip ticket, and €2.80 for an AB short ride, with Potsdam AB singles at €3.00 and tickets in several Brandenburg cities at €2.70.
  • The nationwide Deutschlandticket monthly subscription rises to €63, up from €58.
  • Several products are discontinued, including annual and 7‑day tickets, the 65plus subscription, BC price stages in Berlin, Potsdam, Brandenburg an der Havel, Frankfurt (Oder) and Cottbus, plus various off‑peak and multi‑day offers; pre‑purchased paper tickets remain valid until June 30, 2026.
  • VBB says the adjustments reflect sharply higher energy, fuel and personnel expenses and its tariff index, while passenger group IGEB warns the hikes could slow the shift to public transport.
