Vatican Names Climate Scientist Carlos Nobre to Human Development Dicastery

• Carlos Nobre, named Monday by Pope Leo XIV, will serve as one of 11 advisers to the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Service of Integral Human Development.
• He is the only Brazilian on the list, and he told G1 he learned of the choice by phone and called the climate crisis an emergency that puts humanity at risk.
• The dicastery is a Vatican department created in 2016 that brings together work on human dignity, human rights, health, migration, justice, peace, and care for creation.
