Vatican Confirms Pope Leo’s First Foreign Trip to Turkey and Lebanon in Late November

The itinerary signals a push on Orthodox relations with a pastoral message for Lebanon.

Overview

  • The Vatican set the schedule for Turkey from November 27–30 and Lebanon from November 30–December 2.
  • In Turkey, the pope will make a pilgrimage to Iznik to mark the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and is expected to meet Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
