Vatican Confirms Pope León XIV’s First Foreign Trip to Turkey and Lebanon for Nov. 27–Dec. 2

The itinerary pairs a Nicaea anniversary pilgrimage in Turkey with a Lebanon visit framed around peace.

Overview

  • The Holy See set the dates for Turkey on November 27–30, including a pilgrimage to Iznik for the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea.
  • The second leg in Lebanon is scheduled for November 30–December 2, with local reporting saying the focus is peace efforts and the status of non-state armed groups such as Hezbollah.
  • Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said the detailed program will be released in due course.
  • This will be León XIV’s first trip abroad since his election in May following the death of Pope Francis in April.
  • For now, the Vatican has indicated this is the only foreign journey on the pope’s schedule.
