Vaterstetten Adopts Federal Rerouting Plan, Forsakes Own Bypass

The vote shifts an estimated €25.5 million to federal funding under the condition that Autobahn GmbH submits its planning dossier.

Overview

  • After nearly 18 years of planning, the municipal council voted almost unanimously to withdraw its approval for the locally funded northern bypass.
  • The council’s shift endorses Autobahn GmbH Südbayern’s federally financed Variant 5 rerouting of the Kreisstraße EBE 4/M18, saving Vaterstetten roughly €25.5 million in projected costs.
  • Autobahn GmbH projects that Variant 5 will reduce daily through traffic in Weißenfeld by up to 8,000 vehicles and ease congestion on nearby regional roads.
  • Vaterstetten will only file its formal withdrawal of the Planfeststellungsbeschluss after Autobahn GmbH submits its Planfeststellungsunterlagen, ensuring procedural alignment.
  • Construction under the federal plan is not expected to begin before 2032 and is estimated to take about two years; the western section remains under consideration for neighboring municipalities Haar and Feldkirchen.
