Vascular Consultant Jailed for Three Years Over Fatal Dangerous Driving

Overview

  • Dr Hammanjulde Hammawa, 65, began serving a three-year prison term after pleading guilty at Northampton Crown Court to causing death by dangerous driving.
  • He was also disqualified from driving for six years and six months following the July 2025 hearing.
  • In November 2022 he overtook a lorry on double white lines on the B645 near Hargrave while late for work, causing a head-on collision with Maciej Stepien’s motorcycle.
  • Stepien, a 40-year-old head of IT at TurfTrax and father of two, died instantly, a loss his wife Joanna called “heartbreaking” in a victim impact statement.
  • Detective Constable Lee Norton said the verdict should remind drivers to respect road markings and allow sufficient time for every journey.
