Vantara to Provide Chain-Free Sanctuary for 20 Rescued Elephants from Logging Industry
The elephants, rescued from exploitation in Arunachal Pradesh, will be transported to the state-of-the-art facility in Jamnagar for lifelong care and rehabilitation.
- Twenty elephants, including males, females, a sub-adult, and a calf, were rescued from the exploitative logging industry in Arunachal Pradesh with approval from the Supreme Court-appointed High-Powered Committee.
- The elephants will be relocated to Vantara, a private rescue and rehabilitation center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, where they will live in a chain-free environment that replicates their natural habitat.
- The facility will provide advanced medical care, including treatment for injuries and psychological trauma caused by years of harsh labor and captivity.
- A dedicated team of over 200 experts, including veterinarians and caretakers, will oversee the safe transportation and ongoing care of the elephants.
- The initiative also includes training for former mahouts and elephant owners in humane care practices, offering alternative livelihoods and promoting community well-being.
