Brian White's decisive header in the 87th minute marked his first MLS goal of the season and continued his strong form across competitions.
The Whitecaps, under new head coach Jesper Sorensen, have now won three consecutive matches in all competitions, including a dominant 4-1 victory over Portland last week.
The Galaxy, struggling with roster changes and injuries, remain winless this season after also losing to expansion team San Diego FC in their opener.
