Vancouver Police Charge 54-Year-Old in Joyce–Collingwood Double Homicide

Major-crime investigators continue collecting evidence in a case police say poses no ongoing public risk.

Overview

  • Prosecutors approved two counts of second-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault against Viet Quy John Ly, 54, who remains in custody.
  • Two women were found dead in an apartment near Joyce Street and Vanness Avenue, and a 50-year-old woman who was stabbed was discovered with life-threatening injuries in a nearby building.
  • Police say the surviving woman likely sustained her injuries at the location where the two homicide victims were found before making her way to an adjacent building.
  • Officers located a 54-year-old man at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries and identified him as the suspect following the initial response.
  • The VPD Major Crime Section and Homicide Unit are leading the investigation and working with Crown Counsel as they continue witness canvassing and evidence collection.
