• VIU students created a 21.3m-long, nearly 500kg Nanaimo bar, surpassing the 2020 record of 240kg set in Ontario.
• The Guinness-certified bar was unveiled at the Windsor Plywood Trades Discovery Centre and shared with the public in thousands of pieces.
• Nanaimo Mayor Leonard Krog proclaimed May 17, 2025, as 'Nanaimo Bar Day' to honor the achievement and celebrate the dessert's cultural significance.
• The event also served as a fundraiser to replace aging ovens in VIU’s baking and pastry arts programs, with donations and sponsorships being collected.
• The recipe featured 125kg of butter, 91kg of confectioners’ sugar, 77kg of graham cracker crumbs, and 68kg of dark chocolate.
