Vancouver Coastal Health Issues Second Hepatitis A Alert on Sunshine Coast

Officials say the risk is low but urge people exposed within the listed windows to get vaccinated promptly.

Overview

  • Vancouver Coastal Health’s new notice targets Pepper Creek Pizza & Pasta in Sechelt for salad consumption on July 31–Aug. 14 and Aug. 23–29, with vaccination advised as soon as possible.
  • The earlier alert applies to anyone who ate from the Sea Monkey Coffee truck at Sunday Cider in Gibsons between Aug. 1 and Aug. 25, with vaccination recommended for Aug. 14–25 diners and symptom monitoring for others.
  • People who ate cooked foods such as pizza, sandwiches or pasta at the Sechelt restaurant are not considered at risk, according to the health authority.
  • Symptoms of hepatitis A can emerge two to seven weeks after exposure and may include fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain and jaundice.
  • A single dose of vaccine can prevent illness if given within two weeks of exposure, and it is available free to eligible residents in the VCH region.
