• The Formline Architecture and Urbanism–KPMB Architects team was selected from 14 Canadian proposals following a board-endorsed review.
• The collaboration combines Formline’s Indigenous, place-based design leadership with KPMB’s museum and gallery expertise.
• Officials have not provided a construction schedule or opening date for the Larwill Park building.
• The gallery says the rebooted plan will stay within the C$400 million envelope after the Herzog & de Meuron scheme ballooned to about C$600 million and was abandoned.
• Excavation that began in March 2024 was halted that summer over costs, leaving the site inactive as the institution continues operating in the former courthouse.
