Vance Rolls Out Six-Point Anti-Fraud Pledge

A voluntary six-point pledge meant to tighten administrative enforcement will be used to mobilize Republican officials to prevent improper payments.

Overview

  • Vice President J.D. Vance publicly unveiled the pledge on Thursday, October 15, 2026, and urged members of Congress, local and statewide officials, and candidates to sign and join the effort.
  • The pledge lists six commitments including protecting the elderly and other vulnerable people from fraud, excluding illegal aliens from benefit programs, stopping fraudulent payments before they are made, preventing fraudsters from using public funds for luxury purchases, prosecuting fraudsters, and arresting and deporting noncitizens convicted of fraud.
  • Early endorsements and signings came mainly from Republican officials and groups, including members of the Republican Study Committee, the Republican Governors Association, state auditors and the State Financial Officers Foundation, and several senior administration officials also announced support.
  • The initiative builds on President Trump’s earlier designation of Vance as a federal "fraud czar" and on a White House task force that coordinates interagency steps to detect and stop improper payments, but the pledge itself is a voluntary political and administrative commitment rather than new law.
  • If taken up more broadly, the pledge could boost federal-state coordination and increase prepayment screening and prosecutions, and it may sharpen political fights over benefit rules and immigration enforcement as officials put the promises into practice.
