Van Driver Banned for Six Months After Speeding Past Horse Riders

Following rider-submitted video evidence, North Yorkshire Police have reiterated the Highway Code’s rules for passing equestrians safely.

Overview

  • Stefan Solomon, 24, from Leeds pleaded guilty at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on July 1 to failing to provide driver details.
  • He was fined £709, received 14 penalty points and was disqualified from driving for six months.
  • In September 2024 a white 2022 Ford Transit van driven by Solomon overtook two horse riders at high speed on a North Yorkshire country lane without slowing.
  • The riders submitted footage and the van’s registration to police via Operation Snap after Solomon ignored requests for his details.
  • Police reminded motorists to slow to a maximum of 10 mph and allow at least two metres when passing horse riders under the Highway Code.
