Valve to Shift Steam Pricing to USD in Argentina, Turkey, and 25 Other Countries Due to Exchange Rate Volatility
Transition to USD aims to provide stability amid currency volatility; LATAM-USD and MENA-USD pricing regions to include over 25 countries from November 20, 2023.
- Valve is changing the currency for sales in Argentina, Turkey, and 25 other countries on its gaming platform, Steam, to USD starting from November 20, 2023, in response to exchange rate volatility. These countries will fall under the new pricing regions: LATAM-USD and MENA-USD.
- This change affects the pricing of games, in-game transactions, and existing subscription services, which will all automatically convert to USD at the current exchange rate.
- The currency volatility in these regions has made it difficult for game developers to set appropriate prices and keep them updated. Also, Valve has struggled to maintain payment methods due to constant exchange fluctuations, fees, taxes, and logistical issues.
- Switching to USD pricing aims to provide stability for both players and partners, allowing Valve to continue offering a variety of payment methods in these regions. Monetary value in users' Steam wallets in these countries will be converted to USD.
- Developers selling titles in these regions are required to set new pricing for their projects in USD in the LATAM-USD and MENA-USD fields of Steamworks' Price Management Tool. Otherwise, default USD pricing will apply.
