Valve to End Steam Support on 32-Bit Windows on Jan. 1, 2026

Valve cites reliance on 64-bit-only system components for the shift.

Overview

  • Windows 10 32-bit is the only affected OS version currently supported by Steam, with support ending at the start of 2026.
  • Installed Steam clients on 32-bit Windows will continue to run for the near term but will stop receiving updates, including security fixes, and will not receive technical support.
  • Valve reports that only 0.01% of systems in the Steam Hardware Survey use Windows 10 32-bit, suggesting limited impact.
  • Steam will continue on Windows 10 and Windows 11 64-bit, future client releases will be 64-bit only, and 32-bit games will still run on supported 64-bit systems.
  • The move aligns with Windows 10 reaching end of support on October 14, 2025, as Microsoft ceases updates for that OS.
