Overview
- The Steam Controller sold out after its early May launch, leading Valve to open a reservation queue so buyers could wait for restocks.
- On June 18–19 Valve updated the queue to show three fulfillment windows — by September 2026, by December 2026, or in 2027 — and users can view which window their reservation is in.
- When a reserved controller becomes available Valve will email the customer and give them 72 hours to complete the purchase or lose their place in line.
- Valve says it will keep producing the controller but warns that many reservations made now are estimated to ship in 2027 because current production cannot meet demand.
- The backlog stems from a broader component crunch driven in part by rising demand for AI-capable chips and this supply strain has also delayed other Valve hardware and makes forecasting hard since reservations require no deposit.
