Valve Details Steam Machine Console-Style PC and Steam Frame VR Headset for Q1 2026

Price remains unannounced as Valve outlines specs, streaming features, and repair plans while acknowledging Linux anti-cheat gaps.

Overview

  • Steam Machine pairs a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 6-core CPU with an RDNA3 GPU (28 CUs, 8GB VRAM) on SteamOS with Proton, supports HDR over HDMI/DisplayPort with FreeSync, and allows SSD and DDR5 memory swaps though CPU/GPU are fixed.
  • Valve says 4K output relies on AMD FSR upscaling and frame generation on RDNA3, and coverage flags the 8GB VRAM as a potential constraint for modern high-resolution textures.
  • Steam Frame is a standalone headset with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 16GB unified LPDDR5X, 2160×2160 LCDs per eye, inside-out tracking, eye-tracking for foveated streaming, and an included 6GHz wireless adapter; current guidance suggests roughly 1–4 hours of runtime depending on workload.
  • A new Steam Controller features drift-resistant TMR thumbsticks, dual touchpads, gyro and grip sensors, and a low-latency charging puck, and it will be bundled with Steam Machine or sold separately.
  • Valve targets a Q1 2026 rollout in existing Steam Deck regions via Steam with partner distribution to follow, plans to offer replacement parts, notes many anti-cheat–protected multiplayer games won’t run on SteamOS, and will provide Windows drivers for those who choose to install Windows.
