  • Valerie, a miniature dachshund, was rescued on Kangaroo Island after surviving 529 days in the wild following her escape during a camping trip in 2023.
  • Kangala Wildlife Rescue volunteers dedicated over 1,000 hours and traveled more than 3,000 miles to locate and safely capture the dog.
  • The rescue team employed advanced tracking methods, including remote-trigger traps and scent trails created from Valerie’s toys and her owner’s clothing.
  • Valerie was found healthy and is now wearing an escape-proof harness while undergoing a decompression period to ease her transition back home.
  • Her owners, Josh Fishlock and Georgia Gardner, expressed immense gratitude and are set to reunite with Valerie after her recovery period.
