Valeo to Close Bad Neustadt R&D Site, Cut Jobs Across Franconia

The company cites industry strain from foreign competition to justify concentrating R&D in larger centers.

Overview

  • Employees were informed that the Bad Neustadt development site will shut, ending what remains after production there had already been halted.
  • Of 183 staff in Bad Neustadt, 143 are expected to lose their jobs and 40 are slated to receive transfer offers to Erlangen.
  • Regional restructuring includes 134 affected positions in Ebern, with 37 roles moving to Erlangen, 72 eliminations in R&D, and 25 cuts in support functions.
  • Erlangen will receive a total of 77 transferred roles from Bad Neustadt and Ebern but is also expected to cut 158 R&D positions.
  • Valeo and union representatives say figures and timing remain provisional, with negotiations ahead this year, while IG Metall condemns the decision as a scandal.
