Valencian language academy alleges PP and Vox budget amendments breach autonomy law

The academy says the measures violate its founding statutes after cutting almost all operating funds in favour of partisan projects

Overview

  • The academy has submitted a third legal report to Les Corts’ board, asserting that the budget amendments approved by PP and Vox are unlawful.
  • The amendments slash the academy’s operating budget by 90% to €50,000 and eliminate its €102,000 investment allocation, effectively halting its core activities.
  • They reassign €200,000 for rehabilitating Lo Rat Penat’s headquarters and €480,000 to municipalities governed by PP and Vox, none of which fall under the academy’s statutory mandate.
  • The report warns that these changes breach both the Statute of Autonomy and the law establishing the academy by stripping its mandated funding for Valencian language regulation.
  • Copies of the legal report were forwarded to the parliamentary economy and treasury commission, the chamber’s legal adviser and the regional finance secretary for further review.
