Overview
- On July 7, 2025, the Group of Heritage of the Policía de la GGeneralitat Valenciana seized 30 16th- and 17th-century manuscripts from the Conde de Cirat archive.
- The documents are undergoing technical inventory alongside conservation at the Archivo del Reino de Valencia to guarantee their integrity.
- Because the manuscripts were legally acquired they will be returned to their owners provided they meet mandated preservation conditions.
- The majority of the texts, written in Valencian, Latin and Castilian, detail coastal defense duties of the veedor general de la Defensa Costera del Reino de Valencia.
- The recovery formed part of a yearlong investigation coordinated by regional heritage units, the National Police’s Heritage Brigade and cultural authorities.
