Overview

  • The Generalitat Valenciana filed two formal complaints with the Valencia Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against the CHJ for illegally dumping flood waste and abandoning over 300 vehicles near the Poyo ravine.
  • Three reports by the Generalitat’s environmental agents found that the CHJ moved and buried debris from the October floods onto a seven-hectare private plot without any treatment or supervision.
  • Inspections documented 301 flood-damaged vehicles stored without proper processing, though removal responsibility is divided among the CHJ, the Generalitat and local municipalities depending on where each vehicle sits.
  • Seprona and provincial prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into potential environmental contamination and unlawful transport of waste under Spain’s penal code.
  • The Consell also awarded a €180 million contract to manage more than one million tons of flood debris, while over 300 vehicle owners remain without assistance seven months after the floods.
